There Are Many Shops That Have Gaited Horse Saddles For Sale

By Essie Osborn

A saddle crafted to fit the gaited steed is lighter in weight and smaller than the traditional Western one. Any tack shop will have tack available in all price ranges. The selection of gaited horse saddles for sale will present many choices. The movements of this animal will be accommodated.

This animal moves at a medium-level speed. Certain equine breeds are naturally gaited. Some others may be capable of being trained to move in that smooth four-beat way. Saddlery shops offer saddles made specifically for this horse.

The gait is categorized as ambling. The equine will have one hoof touching the ground at all times as it moves. There will be no bouncing as there is on other breeds, the quarter horse for example.

In contrast, trotters will suspend themselves in the air momentarily during a trot, cantor or full gallop. They move faster than their gaited counterparts. However, the ride is not always smooth, especially the trot. As the result of selective breeding some new breeds have grown smoother.

Scientific researchers discovered an abnormal gene that is responsible for this ability. Even though it can be taught to other breeds in some instances, not every equine can learn it. They must be naturally inclined.

A Tennessee Walker, Peruvian Paso and a Missouri Fox Trotter are three of numerous gaited breeds. A rider never bounces on the back of one of them. After a ride on this smooth moving animal, you will never forget the experience.

Ambling requires the equine to be more flexible in its shoulder and hip movement. A larger saddle will constrict those movements. The saddles crafted for these breeds are smaller and do not obstruct the movements.

It is larger and heavier and will hinder the shoulder movements of this horse. As a result it can pinch and cause the horse to have a sore back. The specially made gaited saddles are lighter. Many owners prefer them for all their horses, not exclusively those with the ambling gait.

Any good saddle should have a tree that is rounded to conform to the curve in a horses back. This makes for a more comfortable fit for the animal. Sheepskin padding on the saddle is preferable to a synthetic padding.

The cinch should be soft. Mohair is the best material. Synthetic is not as comfortable. The saddle pad should be three-quarters of an inch thick and conform to the shape of the saddle.

It is wise to select and use tack based on comfort first, for himself and his mount. A saddle can look beautiful and provide comfort at the same time. As a general rule, the higher the price, the better the quality.

On a quality saddle the stirrups are attached to the tree instead of the skirt. Turned stirrups are most comfortable for the rider. The brand name, price and opinion of other riders will help to identify quality saddles.

There are models with a round skirt and models with a square skirt. The color and embellishments are always subject to the owners taste. The color may depend on the color of the mount. The foremost features are those than insure comfort for the equine and the rider.
