Dog Bandanas As Fashion Statements

By Frances Keith

For many people who own animals, their pets become more like family members than four legged companions. The pooches get to wear cute little articles of clothing, ribbons, bows, even hats and decorative collars. While the adorable little outfits may be great for a few hours or special occasions, dog bandanas are still attractive yet can be worn all day, everyday.

A bandanna is a type of scarf that is worn around the neck and adds a bit of pizazz to one's overall look. Their designs range from very simple to extremely detailed, which means there is something available for every taste, mood or occasion. They are easily tailored to match any personal preference and wearing one can make any pooch stand out in a crowd.

The choices available for this accessory are virtually endless. Available in basic square shapes or in triangles, each one will have edges that have been finished as a way of preventing fraying from chewing and scratching. They can also be worn in several different positions in order to convey a varied look.

Some styles are long enough to allow the owner to tie the cloth around the pup's neck, while others will be fitted with snaps for easy placement and removal. It is possible to find designs that will feature a loose elastic band sewn into the material so that they may simply be slipped on and off. There are even companies that produce scarves that are integrated directly onto a collar, allowing them to be buckled on securely.

With scarves available as small as 6" and as large as 36", every pooch from the smallest teacup type to the most gigantic breed can wear this accessory. Sometimes they may be worn in the bib position, others in the cape, but for a nonchalant vibe the side setting is the way to go. Regardless of its placement, it makes every wearer look snazzy.

With so many variables, there is no limit to the number of possible design choices in which these items may be found. Virtually any imagined pattern may be printed on them and they come in pretty much all colors of the spectrum. A pet may wear a scarf that makes it look like they are wearing a tuxedo or a superhero's cape just to add a touch of personality.

The materials they may be made from include cotton, silk, chiffon, nylon and even mesh, lending even more versatility to the design possibilities. With so many to choose from, it is possible to find something that supports any holiday, occasion, special cause or sports team, or to simply look good each day. On the specialized end of the market are neck scarves infused with insect repellents that can help protect the animals from fleas, ticks, mosquitoes and other bugs that tend to pester and irritate them.

These highly versatile dog bandanas may be worn simply as a splash of color or a super bedazzled accessory intended to turn heads. Every pooch, from the pampered pup who never steps foot on the grass to the rugged canine who craves the great outdoors can wear these scarves and look fabulous doing so. There is something for all preferences, tastes and passions.
