Dog Training That Will Build a Bond between You and Your Dog

By Joshua Allen

A better name for the art of dog training would be "human training". You will not be able to train your dog efficiently if you are not properly trained yourself. You have to train yourself before you train your dog. This article provides helpful information that anyone can use to prepare to train a dog.

When you verbally correct your dog, do it quickly and concisely. Do not drag on in a rant to your dog about how bad they are. Say NO and redirect your dog to the desired behavior. Make sure your voice sounds firm and businesslike.

Use control when rewarding good behavior during dog training. If you are able to command your dog to do something the right way, then it is good to calmly reward your dog. While you may be overjoyed with headway you are making, showing excitement causes the dog to become excited and makes you lose control. Maintain a calm atmosphere and provide an appropriate reward.

Do not tie a dog up near another dog, or dogs. The chain of one dog could become wrapped around the other and, as the dogs struggle to free themselves, one or both could be injured. Situations like this can cause dogs of various sizes to cause fatal injuries if not properly monitored. Always err on the side of caution.

Provide your puppy with his own chew toys to alleviate the pain of teething, and try to keep other items out of reach. Give it one of his chew toys immediately. Teething can cause puppy's significant pain. Give them relief by letting them chew on a washcloth that is wet and frozen.

Pick a phrase you will say to your new puppy the whole time you are working on house training him. Every time you take him outside, tell him "go potty," (use whatever phrase you have chosen) and this will help him learn to focus and remember what he has gone outside to do.

Your relationship with your dog can suffer if you don't know what you need to train them. Thankfully, the advice provided in the above article contains all you need to effectively train your dog so that he or she can be a great addition to your family.
