Components Of Air Pollution

By Lianne Derocco

It is well known that pollution is a worldwide problem that many are facing, including the United States. Together we can make a difference in finding preventive ways on how to counter pollution. One should consider the sources and causes of pollution before discussing ways on how to lessen them. Listed below are few of the most common sources of pollution.

Roughly half of our energy comes from the burning of coal, and it's also one of the most common energy sources on the planet in general. The burning of coal is one of the factors and biggest contributors of air pollution in the United States. Coal emits carbon dioxide in huge amounts, as well as other gases that are toxic to humans and animals. Prolong exposure to the fumes produced with burning coal can be harmful to a person's health.

Cars, airplanes and other vehicles are also other factors that hugely contribute to the source or air pollution aside from coal. Vehicles are checked in many states if they pass emission control requirements to counter such problems. Such preventive measures have contributed greatly in helping improve the quality of air in many cities and states by reducing the amount of toxins released by the exhaust systems of vehicles.

Compared to the people living in rural areas, city dwellers are more prone to suffer from problems related to air pollution. However, problems related to livestock waste are common in rural areas where agriculture is one of the predominant industries. They come from different sources such as hog waste lagoons and waste pits, emitting many harmful gases. Also, local water sources are threatened by toxins that are released if there is a leak in swine lagoons which seeps in the groundwater. This is why waste should be handled with utmost care and importance.

Many scientists are searching for ways to use livestock waste as a renewable source of energy, and the waste also is useful to farmers as a type of fertilizer. Still there are many problems common to both waste pits and waste lagoons, and farmers are encouraged to try using some natural products to solve these issues.

For example, Agra Sphere and Lagoon Agra Sphere are two products that use only natural bacteria and no chemicals. This means that the product is guaranteed safe for both people and their livestock. The spheres, which are biodegradable, just have to be tossed into a waste pit or lagoon and they begin eating away at waste solids and liquefying waste. This type of swine waste product prevents the build-up of sludge, as well as crusting, foaming and even reduces odors. It will also improve the quality of waste making it a better fertilizer.
